First 120 days

I have put together  a group of pictures that  I feel describe our first 120 days.  It is a blessing to be serving among these wonderful, humble people.  When we left for the mission, people told us the thing we would love the most about our mission would be the missionaries.  We have found that to be so true!   So here are some missionary moments from the Peru Central Mission.

This is one of our Zone Conferences.  We do a lot of role playing while teaching Preach My Gospel to our Missionaries.

Here are two of our missionaries.  Notice the Elder on my left has a long braid.    He is from the jungle.   President Kimball told the Indians if they would serve a mission, they would not have to cut their hair.  In their culture,  the tribe makes those who break the law cut their hair,  so short hair is a sign of disobedience.  In other words,  it is an honor to have long hair.  It is an honor to have him serve in our mission.

We like to visit the District meetings.  This is two of our District Leaders making a list of the investigators they are working with.   

Alan and I decided to go out on a date.  We went to dinner and ordered up this meal.     As you can see, we brought it home just for a picture.   It consisted of beef heart, stomach, and chicken.  

I caught this photo of Alan.  He was so tired that he went to sleep suit and all.   Notice the papers on the bed.

Here are two of my dear neighbors.  Ann Douglas and Becky Doris.  Their husbands are both Mission Presidents.   We all live in the same apartment building along with the Blunks.  Karen is not in the picture.  We are  at a pottery shop, buying some beautiful hand made pottery.  This kind of an outing doesn't happen often.   We have to plan for a month to get us all together at the same time, but it is worth it!

Me and my companion, Sister Cruz, and two of our Zone Leaders made a visit to the police station.

Sister Cruz and I were companions for a day. 

A lot of my time is spent taking care of the the medical needs  of the missionaries.  This is one of our sisters and our assistants.  She had an emergency gall bladder operation. 

I do apartment checks once every three months.  I go to the zone with Alan.  He interviews all the Elders and Sisters and I take the Zone Leaders with me to visit their apartments.  Can you see the two Elders climbing up the steps?  I'm following right behind.  I wanted to get the picture.

Here in Peru they drive these little moto taxis.  I had to do an apartment check  really close to this repair shop.  I parked the car in the empty spot to the left,  and took this picture on my way out.

One day while doing apartment checks we had to pull over to make way for this little parade.  It was a holiday celebrating a Saint's birthday.  All the children were dressed up and marching.  The parade started with the youngest children all the way up to high school age children.

I just took some pictures of the topical sights  we see while out doing our Apartment checks.  Always lots  little  carts!

Yup, you guessed it!   These are two of the Zone Leaders I had with me one day.  They are telling me how to get to the apartments in their zone in Spanish, and I mean total Spanish!  You can imagine the rest

Had to get this picture!   We had to walk through this store to get to one of our Elders apartments.   Yes those are chickens.

This is one of our Elders.  He took the opportunity to use my cane for a microphone.   He is quite shy, but the cane bought out the best in him as he burst into singing,  "New York,  New York!  I knew that cane was good for something!

More little carts!   This one is full of baskets for sale.

This is the robot man.  He walks up and down the streets in Peru.   Right in the middle of traffic.  He is collecting money.  He will come up to your car and shoot you if you give him a sole.  We had to give him money to take this picture.

Two more of our Zone Leaders.  They are holding a bottle of cleaning spray.  We are taking it up the the Elders apartment that we are going to inspect.

  We have a lot of success teaching the beautiful humble people who live in homes like these.   Our missionaries live right among them.

Emperatriz's Baptism.   Our Mission has been blessed with  many wonderful baptisms.    The next picture is one of our favorites.  Our grandson, OWEN
