Today we went to do apartment checks and interviews in the zone, La Libertad. It is summer here, very hot and humid. When we drove up to the chapel, our two assistants were standing outside the front door. They walked out to the car, gave us hardy missionary welcome and handshake. As we were gathering up our supplies, Elder Huber, one of the Assistants casually explained, "This is one of the only chapels in our mission that has air-conditioning." This simple sentence caused me to experience Much Joy! The thought of sitting in a cool room for the hours required to teach and interview twenty missionaries was exhilarating! Elder Huber continued explaining how they had come early to get the chapel ready and cooled off for our meeting. When they turned the air-conditioning on, the fan disrupted some pigeons that were nesting on the fan. Feathers flew. The pigeons were in the chapel. There was a lot of chaos as the pigeons flew around the chapel chased by the missionaries. The thoughts of sitting in a air-conditioned chapel disappeared as the story unfolded. I was sad. Then we all laughed.
We entered the church, greeted the missionaries, and started the meeting. We started to sing the opening song and when we looked down at the words, there was a pigeon feather sitting on the page. Missions are fun!
P.S. The air-conditioning worked!
